South Africa: If you are an employee and earn more than R120 000 per annum OR if you earn less than R120 000 per annum but also receive an allowance from your employer (such as a car allowance)or need to claim medical expenses not recovered from a medical scheme, you must register with SARS as a taxpayer. You will receive a tax number and be sent tax returns. People earning under these thresholds still pay tax; they simply do not have to render a tax return - the employer's tax certificate is sufficient for SARS in those cases.
All CC members and PTY directors must register as provisional taxpayers. If you are already registered (i.e. you have a tax number) contact us. We can assist you to apply to simply change your status from employee to provisional. This is much easier and cheaper than trying to re-register.
